Levon Helm: Thank You Mr. Razorback!

My prayers and support go out to the Helm Family: May you and your family be comforted by all of the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem! God Bless!

Today I read this on facebook and I have to say something:
Dear Friends,
Levon is in the final stages of his battle with cancer. Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey. ...

Thank you fans and music lovers who have made his life so filled with joy and celebration... he has loved nothing more than to play, to fill the room up with music, lay down the back beat, and make the people dance! He did it every time he took the stage...

We appreciate all the love and support and concern.
From his daughter Amy, and wife Sandy

In my life, I have seen so many musicians pass away and never have I been as emotional as I am right now.

Many hours of my life have been dedicated to the music of The Band. Levon was such an integral part of the group. He was the only American member, he was lead singer. No one can play an 8-piece quite like Levon, NO ONE! (B.B King can not even play chords and sing at the same time, never mind drum). Levon could even play the mandolin, and when he did, he had to get three of the other members of the band to take over his throne. His playing, was so unique. Those short robust fills, the way how you played traditionally in an untraditional way. I can honestly say that my relationship with my father was strengthened by the music of The Band. So many fond memoires of car rides, or listening to vinyls in the basement. He got to see you play twice, but I will get over that eventually. I can not hold that against him.

We will remember you! I have every intention on holding a vigil for you! This is not going to be a silent vigil, this is going to be a very loud vigil. I am going to BLAST the Last Waltz, the gates of heaven will tremble!

Ophelia, is waiting for you up there and Lonesome Suzy will not be lonesome any more!

May you go in peace and without pain! may your memory be for a blessing!
