Grateful Dead Live at Selland Arena on 1974-07-19

This is a marvelous show! I have already listened to it at least twice. Oddly enough, my favorite song in this show is Playin in the Band, which is my least favorite Grateful Dead song. The jam in this song is just awesome! Jerry is just having a good time, Phil is sounding good and even Keith is playing really well. In fact, in this show Keith is having an excellent night. You can hear right out of the box in Bertha, which is another great song from this recording.

The Eyes of the World is also loose and Jerry is on fire, another song to really listen to is Scarlet Begonias, another one of my personal favorites. But to be perfectly honest, you mind as well listen to this whole show in order, there is nothing here that could possibly disappoint any fan of the dead. Truly one of the best shows I have heard of late, and I have been listening to the dead everyday for the past four or five years. So it goes without saying that this is a true gem. Even Jerry's vocals are good.

Good solos throughout, notably in Eyes and Brown Eyed Woman
I have chosen not to go into great length in regards to why I like this show. As Garcia once said "There is no point in explaining since it is fundamentally emotional"

I actually just started reading: Garcia: An American Life by Blair Jackson. So far so good, I have not gotten to far into it, he has not met Phil or Pig Pen yet, but I think that I am going to enjoy reading this book. I do not think I have ever read a biography in entirety so hopefully this is a first for me. I am finding out that Jerry Garcia was seen by his peers as a very articulate person; I am not surprised. I also found that a lot of the Dead's tunes written by hunter were indirectly about Jerry Garcia's life...very cool!!

Rock On
